Join The Team

Wandering Reel has two important volunteer positions to fill in 2019:

Head of Programming

This person is passionate about short films, knows how to recognize good ones and where to find the gems. And if you don’t have strong connections with other festivals, filmmakers and film schools, this person is resourceful and unafraid to reach out and find some great films and filmmakers.

As Wandering Reel looks to programming our 5th season, we’re expanding our team. We have a new head of filmmaker relations and we are looking for someone who can carry the programming side. This is a job that has been carried by the festival director, but as we grow and look to increasing our home submissions to 500 plus entries, this will be a vital role in the continued growth of the festival.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Posting call for submissions throughout major festival submission platforms

  • Working with Head of Filmmaker Relations and Festival Director for conveying the message through the submission platforms

  • Organizing submissions for volunteer screeners to review

  • Coordinating volunteer screeners

  • Developing new system for ensuring all films get watched and rated appropriately

  • Working with festival director to build the thematic programs for the festival

This is a volunteer position that will begin January 2019. Please email a letter of interest, including your qualifications for such a position to:

Outreach & Development Intern

Wandering Reel is in search of a social media guru who loves film and the power of cinema to effect positive change in the world to serve as Outreach & Development Intern. This position is perfect for a student or recent graduate eager to have an active and important role in the continued development and growth of a unique style of film festival. We're looking for someone who supports our cause, loves motion pictures and knows the ins and outs of social media and enjoys doing it. Here are a few highlights of the position:

  • Manage the Wandering Reel on the web through social networking sites including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Google+

  • Make daily posts to keep WRTFF active on the web and help grow our network

  • Design graphics and edit videos to promote the festival via social media

  • Manage and update as the festival grows and our tours develop

  • Help build our community by connecting to like-minded groups, organizations, film festivals and individuals on the web & beyond

  • Assist in the collection of email contacts and the monthly creation & distribution of our newsletter

  • Act as media Liaison

  • Outreach to potential donors and sponsors for fundraising & festival development

  • Screen dozens of film submissions and help build the programs for out up-in-coming season

  • Perhaps, most importantly: play an active role in crafting and communicating the Wandering Reel voice to better align our mission with what’s happening in the communities we serve

This is a volunteer position that will begin January 2019. Please email a letter of interest, including your qualifications for such a position to:

Other Ways to Help

Wandering Reel needs help to ensure the longevity of our festival’s success. Monetary donations are more than welcomed but we also could benefit from contributions in a variety of areas.

Here are just a few ways you can help:

Local Volunteers

We need local volunteers to help coordinate the events leading up to and during the screenings. Festival dates and locations are being announced every day. Help sell tickets, put up fliers, set up and clean up the event. Get involved. Be the change. We need you!

Check Out Our Events Page to see where we’ve been and where we’re heading next.

See something on the list that you have that we need? Donate it or loan it to us.

  • Large Portable Projector Screen. Ideally, rear projection to give us more flexibility. Ideally, at least 9'x12'.

  • HD 1080p Digital Projector - We have an Epson 2045, great for small spaces. Have something bigger, badder, bolder? An upgrade will allow us to show in larger spaces and do more justice to the incredible films we curate.

  • Portable Sound PA System (speakers and mixer). Currently we have a small 200 watt system. Again, good only for small venues.

  • Microphone & Stand. A wireless microphone would be ideal (but we're not picky).

Printing & Graphic Design

We need printing support so that we can give our audience more in depth information from the filmmakers about the films they are watching. We will also be printing posters to help advertise each event. We want to print on recycled paper and keep the festival as green as possible. We are also seeking artists to contribute to the programs and a graphic designer for the posters and other promotional material as well.

Venues & Audiences

First and foremost, Wandering Reel needs screening venues and enthusiastic attendees. We need local hosts to help connect our films with their viewers. As a host, you will provide a venue for screening, help promote the event and fill the venue.

If you have a venue or would like to curate a Wandering Reel event, please be in touch. We hope to grow constantly and continually so that these wonderful films can reach as many people in as many places as possible throughout our touring season.
